A White House official stated that this financial commitment aligns with President Donald Trump's efforts to bring back manufacturing jobs to the US. This will mark Apple's second major investment in the US, following the announcement in February of plans to invest $500 billion over four years, which includes constructing a large factory in Texas for AI servers and creating approximately 20,000 research and development jobs nationwide. White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers commented on the update, stating, "Today's announcement with Apple is another win for our manufacturing industry that will help reshore the production of critical components to protect America's economic and national security." It is important to note that neither Apple nor Trump has officially announced this yet. Apple has been impacted by US tariffs, resulting in an $800 million cost to the company in the June quarter. These tariffs have prompted some customers to purchase iPhones earlier this year. In response, Apple has shifted some of its production, with iPhones being sourced from India and other products like Macs and Apple Watches from Vietnam.
