Hyderabad: Leaders of the INDIA bloc praised the Telangana government's decision to allocate 42% reservation to BCs in education, employment, and local governance. In a statement on X, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed his support by saying, "The Telangana government and Congress protested in Delhi today, urging the President to approve the law. This legislation marks significant progress towards achieving social justice as outlined in the caste census data." Thanking the INDIA leaders for endorsing the Bill, he emphasized that it was a collaborative initiative to ensure equitable representation and empowerment for all individuals from marginalized communities. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi also commended the Telangana Congress government's passage of the historic Bill guaranteeing 42% reservation for OBCs in various sectors. She highlighted the importance of this step based on caste census data but expressed concern over the delay in the President's approval, calling for national solidarity in advocating for justice and fair representation for marginalized groups. Multiple opposition parties within the INDIA bloc lent their support to the protest led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, urging the President to approve the two Bills. Speaking at the protest in Delhi, DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi questioned the 50% cap on reservations, emphasizing the need for broader access to justice for all. She applauded Tamil Nadu's progressive stance on OBC reservations and criticized the misuse of gubernatorial powers by the BJP. Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav called for the Center's backing of the Bill and declared solidarity with Telangana in this endeavor. NCP MP Supriya Sule lauded Revanth's commitment to Congress's cause and pledged support towards achieving 42% quota for BCs. In a separate development, Telangana's Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka underscored that BC reservation is not a political issue between Congress and BJP but a matter concerning the state and central governments. He urged the Centre to provide its approval, citing the BJP's initial support in the Assembly and expressing hope for continued backing in Parliament. Vikramarka stressed the necessity of removing the 50% cap on reservations through an ordinance to ensure the efficacy of the BC quota Bills. Telangana's Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy accused the President of withholding assent to the BC Bills and the ordinance under pressure from the anti-BC BJP.
